Water Recreation Facilities and Permits

Water Recreation Facilities and Permits
Rules and Regulations for Water Recreation
Facilities
WAC 246-262-001 The purpose of the rules is to
protect the health, safety, and welfare of users of recreational water contact
facilities (RWCFs). A "RWCF" is a recreational water contact
facility which is an artificial water associated facility with design and
operational features that provide patron recreational activity which is
different from that associated with a conventional swimming pool and
purposefully involves immersion of the body partially or totally in the water
and includes, but is not limited to, water slides, wave pools, and water
lagoons.
New regulations require anyone operating a water recreation
facility to have a current permit. In Whitman County, special attention is
given to safety issues. Construction, water quality, protective barriers,
and waterborne diseases and illnesses are monitored and enforced to ensure the
public health's. Those agencies and individuals who are permitted, are
able to work and communicate with an Environmental Health Specialist to ensure
all requirements are met. The permits are good for one year, and must be renewed
annually.
