Environmental Health Technician

This is an entry-level position within the Environmental Health Department, with responsibilities that may include school facilities surveys, food preparation facility inspections, water recreation facilities, and nuisance or solid waste complaint evaluations and actions. The employee of this class will work under the direction of the Environmental Health Director. This work involves contact with various members of the county such as contractors, business owners and managers, medical and environmental professionals, and government officials. This work requires independent judgment in applying county and state environmental health laws and regulations. Work will require the employee to operate automobiles, field test kits, audio-visual equipment, cameras, and temperature recording devices with a high degree of accuracy. Work is performed at field sites and in an office setting.

Lateral Entry Deputy Sheriff

Whitman County's Civil Service Commission is accepting applications for Lateral Deputy Sheriff eligibility list on a continual basis.
Applicants must be currently employed a minimum of twelve (12) consecutive months of full-time paid service or ending employment no earlier than 12 months prior to application, as a sworn police officer in a civilian governmental jurisdiction, tribal police officer in Washington state, natural resource investigators employed by the Washington department of natural resources, special agents employed by the Washington state gambling commission, or liquor enforcement officer. In addition, successful completion of the Washington State Basic Training Academy or State training academy in the state in which they are currently employed and the ability to successfully complete the Washington State Basic Training Equivalency Test within one (1) year after employment. Must be a U.S. citizen, at least 21 years of age, no maximum age limit, and must have a high school diploma or GED certificate.
These qualifications must be met at the time of application and also at the time of appointment. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver’s license prior to appointment is required.
Provisional or temporary employment is specifically excluded from consideration in meeting the minimum requirements.
SALARY: $3,470.00 per month plus benefits, DOQ.

BASIC PURPOSE: Answer the telephone direct calls to proper person; Transfer calls; take messages, greet the public; communicate using verbal and listening skills; file alphabetically and numerically; type; prepare outgoing mail; operate copy machine; fax machine, calculator and type writer. Temporary Legal Assistant Pool

BASIC PURPOSE: Perform a variety of court, criminal, and/or legal work for supporting Prosecutor and Deputies in District and Superior Court and Child Support Cases; also to aid the VAWA Support Staff. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Two years' experience as a paralegal or legal assistant. OR Substituting, on a month for month basis, any experience, education, or training that would demonstrate the level of knowledge and ability required.
