County Extension Program Coordinator-4-H and Ag--40% Time

Provide oversight and leadership, including volunteer management, for Extension work in the

4-H Program and assistance with the Ag program of Whitman County.

This is specialized and highly responsible administrative support work requiring a working knowledge of the department's purpose, functions, and practices including knowledge regarding WSU, WSU Extension and Whitman County Government.

Work contacts will include 4-H and Extension volunteers, the general public, department employees, and various elected and appointed officials. Work requires operation of a variety of office machines, equipment and software including Microsoft Office Suite, web development and graphic art programs. Helpful and friendly interactions with the public, volunteers and youth are a necessary part of this position. Work is normally performed in an office and field setting and frequently on nights and/or weekends.

Operations & Trail Coord/Park Ranger

This is responsible work assisting the Lead Worker or Director of Parks and Recreation in the overall planning, administration, and evaluation of park and recreation programs and maintenance activities. The employee occupying the position of this class will be responsible to the Lead Worker or Director for assimilating a variety of information to assist in the design and implementation of park, recreation and trail programs and maintenance activities that meet public needs. Work will require considerable contact with the general public, civic organizations and other Government agencies. Work will require the use of a variety of field and office equipment such as light duty vehicles, lawn mowers, chain saws, weed/brush trimmers, computers, and telephones. The employee of this class is responsible for assisting the Lead Worker or Director in planning overall County park trails and recreation needs, assisting in planning, administering and implementation of interpretive programs, supervise the maintenance, repair, and cleaning of County park facilities, grounds, equipment and campgrounds, and serving as a park manager at Kamiak Butte.

Work will be performed in both an office and field setting; requiring the employee at times to perform manual work in all weather conditions. Due to the seasonality of the work and events, the work schedule will at times involve weekends, evenings and be intensive in nature especially the months of April through September.

The Operations and Trails Coordinator attends monthly Park Board meetings to obtain input from the Board, and Director regarding the preparation and maintenance of the park and trails. This employee also works with youths and/or developmentally disabled adults and is subject to a criminal/background check.

At times, the employee will assist with the maintenance and operation of other park facilities.

The Whitman County Civil Service Commission is accepting applications for Corrections Officer with the Whitman County Sheriff's Office. This testing procedure will establish a certified eligibility list from which applicants will be considered when positions become available within the Sheriff’s Office. This process will be subject to the rules of the Whitman County Civil Service Commission.

Lateral Entry Deputy Sheriff

Whitman County's Civil Service Commission is accepting applications for Lateral Deputy Sheriff eligibility list on a continual basis.

Applicants must be currently employed a minimum of twelve (12) consecutive months of full-time paid service or ending employment no earlier than 12 months prior to application, as a sworn police officer in a civilian governmental jurisdiction, tribal police officer in Washington state, natural resource investigators employed by the Washington department of natural resources, special agents employed by the Washington state gambling commission, or liquor enforcement officer. In addition, successful completion of the Washington State Basic Training Academy or State training academy in the state in which they are currently employed and the ability to successfully complete the Washington State Basic Training Equivalency Test within one (1) year after employment. Must be a U.S. citizen, at least 21 years of age, no maximum age limit, and must have a high school diploma or GED certificate.

These qualifications must be met at the time of application and also at the time of appointment. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver’s license prior to appointment is required.

Provisional or temporary employment is specifically excluded from consideration in meeting the minimum requirements.

SALARY: $4,143.00 per month plus benefits, DOQ.

Temporary Job Pools

Temporary Pool positions are on an as needed basis within the County. A separate application must be filled out for each position job.  Applications will then remain current for 6 months from the date received.  Due to the nature of the positions work hours cannot be guaranteed.  Salary Ranges $9.47 - $10.50 per hour depending on position and experience.

Temporary Legal Assistant Pool
