Award of Purple Heart
December 15th, 2003


COLFAX, WA- The Whitman County Sheriff’s Office presented the award of Purple Heart to Reserve Deputy and Chaplain Ron McMurray for the injuries he sustained in the line of duty on September 20th, 2003. The Award was presented to Deputy McMurray by Sheriff Brett Myers on December 12th.

The actions demonstrated by Deputy McMurray can only be characterized as valiant, heroic and selfless. Not only did Deputy McMurray act as a peace officer on September 20th , he placed his own life in jeopardy to ensure the safety of others. The Whitman County Sheriff’s Office stresses INTEGRITY, UNITY, LOYALTY and COMMUNITY as core values for its law enforcement professionals. Deputy McMurray demonstrated all four of these values on that day in September.

The men and women of the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office recognize Deputy McMurray’s sacrifice, and service to the citizens of Whitman County.
