The Whitman County Jail was built in 1984. Over the years we have seen the
number of inmates increase. With the increase of inmates, we have increased our
bed space from about 38 to 50. We have the ability to add more temporary bunks
should the need arise. On most days the jail population is about 40, however it
swells to near 50 many times through out the year.
In 1998 our average daily population was 27 inmates. In the year 2000, our
average daily population was 40 inmates.
