So, You're Going to Jail |

If you have been to court and you were sentenced to spend time in the Whitman County Jail, you will need to know some things which will make your life and our lives much easier.When you come to jail, please leave all jewelry at home. This includes tongue rings, earrings, nose rings, etc. Leave purses and wallets at home as well. Bring ID, Money, Prescription Medications and the clothing you will need for your stay.
Below is a copy of the inmate orientation we give to each inmate. It will tell you what you are allowed to bring, and what you are not allowed to bring.
This is a brief set of the jail rules. It is your responsibility to read and understand the Inmate Handbook which is located in each unit.
THE GOLDEN RULE APPLIES HERE: TREAT OTHERS AS YOU WISH TO BE TREATED. BASIC RULES:
- You will not assault any person - staff or inmate.
- You will not damage county property or property of others.
- You will not consume or possess alcohol or drugs.
- You will not keep food in your cell (except commissary items).
- You will obey all laws of the U.S. and Washington State.
- You will obey all instructions from staff.
- You will shower at least every other day.
- You will keep noise to a minimum.
- You will have no glass or metal in your unit or cell.
- You will keep your cell clean and help clean the common areas.
YOU MAY HAVE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS IN YOUR CELL:No one, staff or inmate, is required to put up with vulgar or abusive language.
- Items bought from in-house commissary.
- Three pair of socks and underwear.
- Lightweight shoes or tennis shoes.
- Paper, pencils and envelopes.
- Attorney mail and a small amount of other mail and paper.
- Sweat suit without strings.
- Total of three books and magazines. All books and magazines that you bring in will be donated to the jail library. School text books and religious material excluded.
- Items issued to you at booking.
There is a phone in each unit - collect calls only. There is no time limit on calls but remember that others also need to use it. The phone turns off at 10:00 PM.
