Community Service

The Whitman County Jail has a limited number of inmates at any given time who perform community service as part of their jail time. Some of these tasks are performed within the walls of the jail, such as, mopping, sweeping, house cleaning type duties, and painting.

Other inmates work outside the jail offering help to other Whitman County officials as well as the community at large.

The inmate participate in summer road crews cleaning trash from the road side. They assist community and civic groups in many different functions.

Each year community groups, public officials, churches, and the general population benefit from the work of the inmates. Inmate manhours have saved Whitman County thousands of dollars every year.
