Purpose The primary function of Whitman County Environmental Health continues to be education in order to promote, maintain, and improve the health status of residents and the environment in Whitman County . The Environmental Health Department is a division of Whitman County Public Health, and works closely with doctors, nurses, hospitals and laboratories to monitor and ensure all aspects of public health. The Environmental Health Department is proud of its commitment to both the community and environment, and continuously works to maintain these relationships .
Departmental Responsibilities ● Community Education Outreach ● On-site Sewage Disposal Permits & Evaluations ● Food Protection Program & Permits ● Restaurant Inspections ● Food-borne Illness Investigation, Surveillance, & Reporting ● General Vector Control & Monitoring ● Illegal Dumping/Hazardous Waste Disposal ● Water Supply Evaluations ● Radon, Radiation & Air Quality Information ● Plan Review & Approval ● Animal Bite Reporting ● Joint effort and partnership with Public Health to enhance the quality of life in our community. ● Community outreach and educational services to assist in all aspects of environmental health ● Continuously strive to improve of quality of services. ● Effective stewardship of our community's resources. ● Prevention and investigation of foodborne illnesses and communicable diseases. ● Work closely with the Washington State Department of Health to meet our community's needs. ● Continuously monitor environmental health needs and to develop quality programs to fit these needs
