Noxious Weed Coordinator

This is responsible administrative work planning, coordinating, directing, and participating in Whitman County's noxious weed control program. This employee will exercise considerable latitude in judgment and discretion in the interpretation of statutes, regulations, and county policies relating to weed control programs and their application and enforcement. Work of this class will involve extensive contact with state agencies, county departments, private vendors, and the general public. Work will require the use of a variety of field and office equipment such as light duty vehicles, calculators, telephones, dictating equipment, cameras, and projectors. The employee occupying the position of this class will be responsible for the noxious weed programs on all public and private property and on all county roadside right-of-way within Whitman County.

Work is performed in both an office and field setting.

Heavy Equipment Operator-Lacrosse

Heavy Equipment Operator, LaCrosse Shop-Whitman County Public Works Department. This is a road maintenance and construction position. Equipment operation required: hydraulic excavator, grader, backhoe, bulldozer, loader, tandem axle truck and trailer.

REQUIRED: Possession of a valid CDL Class A, Tank Vehicle Endorsement to CDL; a safe driving record, and ability to drive 13-speed road ranger transmission and tandem axle truck with a minimum of two (2) year full-time operating experience with these pieces of equipment. Current medical card and pre-employment drug screening required.

PREFERRED: Hazardous Materials Endorsement

STARTING SALARY: $3591.00 per month plus benefits.

Waiver and Authorization to Release Information

Lateral Entry Deputy Sheriff

Closing Date: 12/31/2020

Whitman County's Civil Service Commission is accepting applications for Lateral Deputy Sheriff eligibility list on a continual basis.

Applicants must be currently employed a minimum of twelve (12) consecutive months of full-time paid service or ending employment no earlier than 12 months prior to application, as a sworn police officer in a civilian governmental jurisdiction, tribal police officer in Washington state, natural resource investigators employed by the Washington department of natural resources, special agents employed by the Washington state gambling commission, or liquor enforcement officer. In addition, successful completion of the Washington State Basic Training Academy or State training academy in the state in which they are currently employed and the ability to successfully complete the Washington State Basic Training Equivalency Test within one (1) year after employment. Must be a U.S. citizen, at least 21 years of age, no maximum age limit, and must have a high school diploma or GED certificate.

These qualifications must be met at the time of application and also at the time of appointment. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver’s license prior to appointment is required.

Provisional or temporary employment is specifically excluded from consideration in meeting the minimum requirements.

SALARY: $4 353.00 per month plus benefits, DOQ.

The Whitman County Civil Service Commission is accepting applications for Corrections Officer with the Whitman County Sheriff's Office. Temporary Job Pools

Temporary Pool positions are on an as needed basis within the County. A separate application must be filled out for each position job.  Applications will then remain current for 6 months from the date received.  Due to the nature of the positions work hours cannot be guaranteed.  Salary Ranges $9.47 - $10.50 per hour depending on position and experience.
