This is responsible road maintenance and construction work involving, on a continuing basis, the safe, efficient and highly skilled operation of heavy road maintenance equipment and the performance of manual work. Work of this class is distinguished by the higher skill level necessary to perform the more difficult operations for which the equipment is used, and/or significantly increased responsibility for the safety of employees working near or in conjunction with assigned equipment. Work requires employees to exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in the performance and completion of assignments. This classification is characterized by the highly skilled operation, on a continuing basis, of one or more of the following equipment: bulldozers, hydraulic excavators, graders, welding equipment, truck, tractor and trailer and rotary snow plow as required.
Work is normally performed in the cab of assigned equipment or outdoors in all weather conditions.
Perform highly skilled operation of tandem axle trucks and trailers and heavy road equipment in conformance with applicable laws, procedures, and standards; detect need for equipment repair, perform preventive and minor mechanical repair; manual labor; lifting, bending, climbing and walking in the performance of duties; work outdoors in all weather conditions; knowledge of safety practices.

Lateral Entry Deputy Sheriff

Whitman County's Civil Service Commission is accepting applications for Lateral Deputy Sheriff eligibility list on a continual basis.
Applicants must be currently employed as a full time, sworn officer, and be fully commissioned by a civilian law enforcement agency, and have 12 months of commissioned, under Civil Service, law enforcement experience, or 24 months of non-military, non-Civil Service law enforcement experience.
Must be a U.S. citizen, at least 21 years of age, no maximum age limit, and must have a high school diploma or GED certificate.
These qualifications must be met at the time of application and also at the time of appointment. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Washington State driver’s license prior to appointment is required. Applicants not currently certified by Washington State must successfully complete the Washington State Basic Training Equivalency Test within one year from their date of hire. Provisional or temporary employment is specifically excluded from consideration in meeting the minimum requirements.
SALARY: $3083.00 per month plus benefits, DOQ.

Seasonal Park Aide

This is responsible work assisting the Operations Coordinators in the maintenance of the county parks and other facilities. Work requires contact with the general public and the use of a variety of maintenance equipment such as light duty vehicles, lawn mowers,chain saws, weed eaters, etc. Maintenance activities will include light construction, trail repair, landscaping, restoration, and day-to-day park and facility maintenance (mowing,restroom cleanup, special projects). Maintain and care for equipment and hand tools; detect needed repairs and make simple adjustments to equipment; perform physical labor (lifting over 40lbs., etc.). Work will be performed primarily at Kamiak Butte County Park, Klemgard County Park, Wawawai County Park, Bill Chipman Palouse Trail, and the Whitman County Fairgrounds.
