This is a responsible engineering position conducting the design and inspection functions of engineering projects. Employees of this class will be required to coordinate engineering functions with the Whitman County Public Works Department. Work requires the skilled operation of a variety of office and field equipment such as computers and design software, light duty vehicles, calculators, drafting equipment, transits, levels, construction testing equipment, and a variety of others. Employees of this class are required to coordinate the operation of assigned areas of work on one or more projects, and report to the Project Engineer or County Engineer on individual assignments.

Communications Tower Site Maintenance - Seasonal

This is responsible work assisting the Emergency Communication Manager in the maintenance of the Communications Tower Sites and other facilities. Maintenance activities will include light construction, repair, landscaping, restoration, and cleanup of the tower building. Maintain and care for equipment and hand tools; and detect needed repairs.

Lateral Entry Deputy Sheriff

Whitman County's Civil Service Commission is accepting applications for Lateral Deputy Sheriff eligibility list on a continual basis.
Applicants must be currently employed a minimum of twelve (12) consecutive months of full-time paid service or ending employment no earlier than 12 months prior to application, as a sworn police officer in a civilian governmental jurisdiction, tribal police officer in Washington state, natural resource investigators employed by the Washington department of natural resources, special agents employed by the Washington state gambling commission, or liquor enforcement officer. In addition, successful completion of the Washington State Basic Training Academy or State training academy in the state in which they are currently employed and the ability to successfully complete the Washington State Basic Training Equivalency Test within one (1) year after employment. Must be a U.S. citizen, at least 21 years of age, no maximum age limit, and must have a high school diploma or GED certificate.
These qualifications must be met at the time of application and also at the time of appointment. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver’s license prior to appointment is required.
Provisional or temporary employment is specifically excluded from consideration in meeting the minimum requirements.
SALARY: $3,829.00 per month plus benefits, DOQ.
