If you are interested in applying for any of our positions, you must complete an application.    Whitman County requires original signatures on all applications, so we are unable to accept electronic applications.  Please mail your completed and signed application to:

All applicants must complete a Whitman County employment application.  Resumes and cover letters may be attached, but applicant must include an original signed and dated application.  Complete applications must be mailed to Whitman County Human Resources on or before the position's closing date.  The application may be emailed or faxed only if the original is mailed immediately afterward and is postmarked no later than the closing date of the position. 

 

Whitman County does not accept applications for positions or eligibility lists that are not currently open.  Open positions may be found on this website; inside the Whitman County Courthouse or by calling (509) 397-6205.

 

Once a position has been filled, Human Resources will issue all applicants a letter notifying them of the position's closure.

 

If you include additional material with your application make sure that you add appropriate postage.  Postage due envelopes will be returned unopened and will not be date stamped until received with correct amount of postage.

Lateral Entry Deputy Sheriff

Closing Date: Continuous Eligibility List

Whitman County's Civil Service Commission is accepting applications for Lateral Deputy Sheriff eligibility list on a continual basis.

Applicants must be currently employed as a full time, sworn officer, and be fully commissioned by a civilian law enforcement agency, and have 12 months of commissioned, under Civil Service, law enforcement experience, or 24 months of non-military, non-Civil Service law enforcement experience.

Must be a U.S. citizen, at least 21 years of age, no maximum age limit, and must have a high school diploma or GED certificate.

These qualifications must be met at the time of application and also at the time of appointment. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Washington State driver’s license prior to appointment is required. Applicants not currently certified by Washington State must successfully complete the Washington State Basic Training Equivalency Test within one year from their date of hire. Provisional or temporary employment is specifically excluded from consideration in meeting the minimum requirements.

SALARY: $3207.00 per month plus benefits, DOQ.

Temporary Job Pools
Temporary Pool positions are on an as needed basis within the County. A separate application must be filled out for each position job.  Applications will then remain current for 6 months from the date received.  Due to the nature of the positions work hours cannot be guaranteed.  Salary Ranges $8.07 - $10.50 per hour depending on position and experience.

Temporary Office Assistant Pool

Closing Date: Continuously Accepting Applications

BASIC PURPOSE: Answer the telephone direct calls to proper person; Transfer calls; take messages, greet the public; communicate using verbal and listening skills; file alphabetically and numerically; type; prepare outgoing mail; operate copy machine; fax machine, calculator and type writer. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Six months of general clerical experience including reception duties, answering telephones, filing and typing.

Temporary Legal Assistant Pool

Closing Date: Continuously Accepting Applications

BASIC PURPOSE: Perform a variety of court, criminal, and/or legal work for supporting Prosecutor and Deputies in District and Superior Court and Child Support Cases; also to aid the VAWA Support Staff. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Two years' experience as a paralegal or legal assistant. OR Substituting, on a month for month basis, any experience, education, or training that would demonstrate the level of knowledge and ability required.
